Cold Feet

My kids have always gone barefoot in the house. Now that its getting colder I want them to wear socks or slippers, that doesn't happen because they are 1 and 2 years old and the first chance they get....the socks come off and forget about slippers!! Either way I have to get something on their feet.

Funny story, my daughter who is 1 year old had trouble walking in regular socks on the hard wood floor so I took some socks with out grips and bought some puffy paint at the craft store and made slipper socks!

Chalkboard

My 2 year old is always wanting to write, paper gets ripped and thrown around and my lil girl eats the paper...or they run with the pencils soooo....

we decided to make a chalkboard for their playroom.  My husband went to home depot 2x4 thin formica board and a can of chalkboard paint. He sprayed it and let it sit in the sun to dry, then he hung it on the wall with screws (all 4 corners)  so they couldn't pull it down. I bought some sidewalk chalk because its fatter and doesn't leave a lot dust on their hands.

Viola!

Back to School!

Both my 14 year old and myself are back to school for the fall!

I am not working and YES its been over a year, I have gone back to school to finish my bachelors degree in business, I am learning so much.

Although, I wish I went back to school before my latest editions (Sam and Ruby) Im sure it would have been easier. BUT-its never too late and I want my oldest to follow by example.

Well...off to bed now, I have class in the AM..

Tale of a Teen birthday

Not having a plan was the best thing I ever thought of for my oldest child 14th birthday. We knew we were going to dinner and let him pick the place out. He chose the Tokyo Steakhouse Where the chefs cook right in front of you, it was a great experince for a hard to please teen!

Blurry cell pic

For dessert we came home and sang happy birthday and he blew out a candle atop his custom made (by me) cupcakes.

They were chocolate cake with chocolate ganache and cannoli cream. Yumm!

Then we went to a local fair, Olde Homes Day. I think I saw him crack a smile in public! It was a great way to wrap up the day.

I felt like I was having fun instead of stressing out over the party details! Yay ME!! :) I even went on a few rides myself.

Red, White and Blue 1st Birthday

I had my baby girls 1st bday on the beach, since her birthday is July 3rd I went for a red, white and blue theme. I tried to adapt it to a birthday and had to do it while we were on vacation for a week at the beach.
Since we were traving I didnt get to do everything I wanted, thats ok!
 I kept everything simple.

I did the Marshmallows from an earlier post HERE and a Berry cake.

I had strawberry oreos and red white and blue keebler chocolate chip cookies and store bought sugar cookies shaped like stars on star plates.

Of course I did my Red, white and blue cupcakes from an earlier post HERE
The table

My favors were in a red and blue blinking stars in a striped bag.

(I didn't get a pic of them in the bag)

Red, White and Blue Marshmallows!

Just in time for the 4th of July! I made these for my daughters birthday on the 3rd.

Very easy! You just need Marshmallows, Chocolate wafers and Popsicle sticks and sprinkles.

They didn't have red and blue only stars so I had my 13 year-old separate them for me.

Ready to dip! I just stuck them in straight so the white would show.

Let them dry slightly on wax paper, don't wait too long or they will flatten. I put them upright when they were almost hardened.

To finish it off I took wired ribbon and hot glued it around the styrofoam wreath.

TADAHH!

Father's Day Snack Cake

I got this idea from food network magazine where people are using snack cakes for their wedding cake.

My Husband LOVES snack cakes so I had to make this for him. I arranged them on the plate and used a toothpick to insert the topper that I made the topper in Microsoft word.

Total cost $12.00

Cookies instead of Cake

I had cookies made by Amanda from i am baker for my mothers 60th birthday celebration. We traveled down to Connecticut to Foxwoods casino and we stayed in a hotel for 2 nights and had dinner at the Hard Rock Cafe. All went well EXCEPT the cookies were delivered on time but  when I asked the front desk at the hotel (several times) for the delivery they said they didn't come in, so we didn't have the cookies for the party!!  AHHH! I didn't freak out because stuff happens... we did get them after some prodding they "found" the package mind you it was the day ofter the party..we opened the box and the cookies were EXCEPTIONAL!

I do wish we had them at the dinner party because I KNOW they would have been a big hit, but like my mother said more for us!! YUMMSTERS! tee hee

Test Kitchen ~Cupcakes

I need to practice my red white an blue cupcakes for Ruby's 1st birthday on the 4th of July! I got my inspiration from Skip to my Lou's post Red, White and Blue Cupcakes.

I didn't practice the frosting, that will be for another day.

I just used Betty Crocker white cake mix added my egg whites then separated the mix into different bowls to add the color.

I started with a little blue, more white and finished it off with the red. I used a rubber spatula to layer the colors, I was surprised that there was little mess. I was happy with that! :)

They layered perfectly! ..hopefully when I do them for the party it happens again!!

YuM!

The test was a success! and my "tester" thought so too...looks like the dogs are waiting for him to drop some!
